Chemist Fire Assay

ARE YOU READY TO WORK WITH 1000° C FURNACES?

Fire Assay is a classic method for determining precious metals in raw materials. It is physically intensive work involving working with lead and using 1000° C furnaces.

Daily tasks at the job

In this position, you will be responsible for work that may occur in the laboratory such as:

  • sample pre-processing such as weighing in, destruding and filtering;
  • performing instrumental analyses (including AAS);
  • all other daily laboratory related work;
  • develop and keep methods up-to-date;
  • contribute to the further development of the quality system and LIMS;
  • equipment management.

You do not yet need to know everything about these processes (yet). There will be a lot of opportunity to learn on the job.

Qualifications

There is one major qualification for this job, which is that you are willing to work in shifts between 6 am and 11pm on weekdays.  And that you are, on rare occasions, also employable on weekends. Other qualifications that are a plus (but not a must) are that you have:

  • an education that is similar or higher than MBO (level 3/4) ;
  • experience with Fire Assay is a plus; 
  • some experience with, or interest in working in a commercial (chemical) laboratory.
