Oleksandr

Working as nautical office employee @ CTC

From Sea to Shore

As of November 2023, Oleksandr, originally from Ukraine, started working as a nautical office employee at CTC.
He was looking for a position that matched his maritime experience but was based on shore instead of offshore.

Our career coach Paula immediately thought of CTC, where she had recently spoken with Bob Hortulanus.
At that time, Bob was searching for someone with exactly Oleksandr’s background and skills.
The connection was quickly made — and the match was perfect.

Two months later, we checked in with both Oleksandr and Bob to see how their collaboration was developing.

Gaining Experience and Confidence

“Since working at CTC, I’ve gained a lot of new experience and knowledge about the supply industry,” Oleksandr says.
“This job allows me to use my maritime expertise and learn even more every day.”

Bob is equally positive about Oleksandr’s performance:

“His nautical background made it easy for him to integrate smoothly into the company,” Bob explains.

Overcoming Challenges Together

Naturally, there were a few challenges at the beginning.
The main one was the language barrier, as Oleksandr’s Dutch was still limited when he joined.
The team solved this quickly by switching the software settings to English.

Oleksandr also faces challenges typical of his role.

“Sometimes clients request items that aren’t in stock, but are urgently needed,” he explains.
“Fortunately, my colleagues have great experience and are always ready to help. Together, we solve these situations.”

These moments make Oleksandr realize how important his work is to CTC’s clients.
That responsibility motivates him even more to perform at his best.

Teamwork and Integration

When asked about his team, Oleksandr smiles:

“I feel well integrated into the company culture. Everyone is friendly, and the atmosphere is positive.”

He especially values teamwork:

“Achieving goals together and celebrating success as a team is the most satisfying part of this job.”

A Successful Match

Both Oleksandr and Bob are very satisfied with their collaboration.
Bob has already recommended Port of Opportunities — and the idea of hiring newcomers — to other maritime companies.

Oleksandr is equally grateful.
He says that working at CTC has greatly improved his professional growth, language skills, and integration into Dutch society.

“I’m thankful for this opportunity,” Oleksandr concludes.
“It’s more than just a job — it’s a new chapter in my life.”
