RECEIVING SALARY: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Your employer often pays your salary in arrears over a certain period in which you have worked (often a week or a month). The dates on which you will be paid are stated in your contract. The salary can be paid into a Dutch or foreign account. Most people prefer to use a Dutch account so that they do not have to pay transaction costs for the payment.

The employer must always pay you the minimum salary by bank. If your salary is higher than the minimum wage, the amount above may be paid in cash. Payment in cash is only possible if you also receive proof of payment. Without this proof, paying with cash is a risk, because it could also be undeclared work (black work). Black work is prohibited. If you still (partially) receive a benefit and work undeclared, this may mean that your benefit is stopped. In addition, if you work undeclared  you are not insured for any accidents that could happen at the job.
